Milan Trenc is the author of comic strips, illustrations and movies, known to Croatian public as the man behind intriguing illustrations in magazine “Start” and the maker of popular comic strips “Milan Blenton” and “Koščak”, , published in Croatia during the 80s.
One of the most prominent author of comics in Croatia, Milan Trenc was born in 1962 in Zagreb where he took a degree in film direction at the Academy of Dramatic Arts. Parellely with his direction course, he started publishing comic strips, first in youth magazines and then in the weeklies. Comics “Milan Blenton” i “Koščak”, published in Večernji List, made Trenc so famous that he became the main illustrator in magazine “Start” already in 1985.
His first encounter with animation started in the early eighties when he started working for Zagreb Film, creating the episode “Blenton” in Kresimir Zimonic's filmThe Match. In 1999. his film Veliki Provod [Big Funtime], shown at the London Film Festival won the hearts of critics, and today it is considered as one of the Zagreb School classics.
After moving to New York, where he published comic strips in Heavy Metal Magazine, illustrations in The New York Times, Time, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Fortune, The Washington Post, Business Week , he wrote and illustrated the children's book The Night at the Museum and did storyboards for Sony videos.
In 1997, together with Mandy Jakobson, he founded the production company IMG Media, among the first to adopt digital technology and created a number of commercial projects for various clients (including Hallmark, UN, Sony and Viacom).
His feature film Zen Stories was shown at the Motovun Film Festival in 2001, and he is currently working on his own animated film Loneliness and on a series of 3D animations for children. He continues to produce illustrations for the American and Croatian press.
