Američki predsjednik u odlasku Joe Biden preventivno je u ponedjeljak, nekoliko minuta prije nego što je predao dužnost Donaldu Trumpu, pomilovao petero članova svoje obitelji, rekavši da je želio spriječiti da ne budu meta "neutemeljenih i politički motiviranih istraga".

Među pomilovanima su njegova dva brata, James i Francis. Na popisu su i Sara, supruga Jamesa Bidena, Bidenova sestra Valerie i njezin suprug John. Biden je također promijenio kaznu doživotnog zatvora protiv indijanskog aktivista Leonarda Peltiera, koji je u saveznom zatvoru proveo gotovo pet desetljeća zbog ubojstva dvojice FBI-jevih agenata 1975. Peltier će ostatak kazne provesti u kućnom pritvoru.
